This majestic tree was diagnosed with having giant polypore (meripilus giganteus). This is a particularly dangerous fungi as it attacks the main structural roots whilst leaving the feeder roots intact, this can result in what appears to be a perfectly healthy tree, suddenly failing.

Therefore the reluctant decision was taken to remove the tree due to the considerable lean towards the church.
